The Club, via its members organise various trips to the continent over the course of the year. The most established event is the 'Tour de Belgie', - this traditionally in the first full weekend in August. Invitations to the event go out in early January for the following August and those wishing to go need to confirm by the 25th Jan, the trip is limited to 30 people and over the course of 4 days goes from Calais to Brugge and back via quiet roads, mainly beside canals, the accommodation is in good quality hotels and all costs are covered for the trip from the fees collected every month once you have committed to go ... the collection pays for overnight accommodation in Dover on the outward trip, cost of petrol and car insurance for the following vehicle, all ferry costs, all meals at hotel and restaurants, all snacks and drinks during the trip...this event is very eagerly looked forward to, hence the places go very quickly. It comprises of approx 50-70 miles per day of easy riding, this is not a race, but there is ample opportunity for the faster riders to flex their legs over the course of the 4 days. Riders of all ability are accepted and there are normally around 4 women go as well. If you require any further details please email Mike Morgan. This event is organised by members and is done on a friends invitation and not an organised tour in the legal definition, therefore the organiser is not liable to any insurance claim.
Various members of the club also organise trips to either one day events in the professional calender, cyclo cross or even spotives in Northern France, these along with trips to events like the Tour de France are usually organised by individual members, with other members asked if they would like to join the trips, the best way to find out about these is to either call/email the Hon Gen Sec or watch out for information posted on the website.
Although not a 'foreign' trip the 'Tour of the Marshes'
has recently been introduced and is open to all club members, this will be organised in early December and comprises a small ride over the marshes and back along the coast sea wall followed by a Sunday Lunch, this will be used as an informal gathering to discuss who would like to go on the following years 'Tour de Belgie'.... if you would like to be considered for invitation to this please email Mike Morgan
