NEW Date! – 28th February 2011
Everything these days gets blamed on global warming but the severe, adverse weather encountered in 2009 & 2010 has prompted the Catford Cycling Club to desert their ‘traditional’ January start for this early season Sportive. By moving the Hell of the Ashdown Challenge a month later it is hoped that the conditions will be kinder and not deter riders. So that there won’t be so many non-starters.
NEW Opening Date! – 00hrs 1st Nov 2010
We sell out within 48hours so make sure you enter early to ensure a place.
NEW Limit! – for competing riders
Previously our cut-off point was a 1,000 entries. However we’ve never had a 1,000 actual starters. This is unfortunate for those cyclists who couldn’t get in. So we’ve now increased the number that we accept to take this into account.
NEW Hill! – Nouvelle Col de Groombridge
Hard climbs are a feature of the Hell of the Ashdown. So we’ve found a new one. We’ve abandoned the main road Groombridge Hill for a country lane which runs parallel. This isn’t named a hill but merely Groombridge Road, so we’ve christened it ‘Nouvelle Col de Groombridge’. Undoubtedly it is a hill and one that seems never ending.
